HFC NBN is one of seven NBN technology types in Australia. It uses Telstra’s old cable TV network, the coaxial cables that delivered pay TV to Australian homes in the 1990s and 2000s. What is HFC NBN

HFC stands for Hybrid Fibre Coaxial. The technology runs fibre-optic cable from the NBN point of interconnect to a street node. From the node, coaxial cable runs to your premises. How does HFC NBN perform

HFC supports the full range of NBN speed tiers. The maximum theoretical speed on HFC is 1000/400 Mbps (NBN 1000), though real-world performance is typically lower. The main performance difference between HFC and full-fibre is the coaxial segment. This can introduce congestion during peak hours. Peak hours for residential areas are typically 7 to 9pm. Business-only NBN connections see less of this issue. Most businesses on HFC experience typical download speeds of 80 to 95% of the tier’s headline speed. HFC vs other NBN technologies

The most common HFC business plans are: NBN 50/20, NBN 100/40, and NBN 250/100. NBN 50/20 fits most small businesses. NBN 100/40 is for medium businesses. NBN 250/100 suits larger businesses with heavy upload needs. For HFC specifically, NBN 50 is more than adequate for most small businesses.
