How to Disable RCS on Android Devices

Turn off RCS messaging on Android to prevent conflicts with the SIPcity app.

When you port a mobile number to SIPcity, you may notice that SMS messages from certain senders arrive in your device’s native messaging app instead of the SIPcity app. This occurs because your number is still registered for RCS (Rich Communication Services) on your current or a previous Android device.

RCS is a messaging feature similar to iMessage that sends messages over the internet. To ensure all SMS messages route to the SIPcity app, you need to disable RCS.

If your number is on your current Android device

  1. Open the Messages app.

  2. Tap your profile picture or the three-dot menu icon, then go to Settings.

  3. Tap RCS chats or Chat features/settings.

  4. Toggle off the RCS chats or Chat features switch.

If your number is no longer on an Android device

If your number is still linked to a previous Android device that you no longer have, or if you have inserted a new SIM card, use Google’s self-service tool to disable RCS:

  1. Go to https://messages.google.com/disable-chat.

  2. Enter your phone number on the webpage.

  3. You will receive a verification code in the SIPcity app.

  4. Enter the code on the webpage to complete the process.

Once verified, your number will be removed from the RCS messaging service.
